The expansion of gambling activities in Florida was signed by Governor Charlie Crist of Florida on Monday.
The Seminole tribes are yet to agree on the gambling expansion. Their agreement is likely doubtful as they are already working on the compact. And reliable resources from the tribe state that they might not accept the deal by any means.
Per the expansion proposal, the Seminoles will be required to pay $150 million per annum apart from a certain percentage of profit from the casino’s revenues. Previously, it was only $100 million and per the new expansion it has shot up to the $50 million more.
Notably, the Seminoles wanted a rework on the $100 and it is unlikely that they will agree for the new $150 million deal.
The Florida expansion plans agree with the Seminoles to put up blackjack and other games with an exclusive right; however, the new tax plan is likely to void the compact and it is indeed done by exploiting the loop holes in law.
Crist is trying to pitch the Seminoles to make the deal work, because if the Seminoles were not in agreement with the state legislation they will likely seek help from Federal Law, which will eventually have them to abide by the deal and if they do the Federal bench will permit them with rights to work around with all kinds of gambling games they would want to without paying the state anything at all.
It is highly unlikely that the Seminoles will agree by the state norms, they are sure to approach Federal Legislation.
