Know When to Fold Em:
Knowing when to fold you hand is the most important of all the poker tips. Just because you have been dealt some cards does not mean you have to play them. If you get a bad hand it is smarter to fold your hand rather then trying to take 4 new cards and hope you get a hand. If you don't have a good hand, fold.
Folding in the Last Round:
The most common mistake from beginners is staying in the game at the end even thou they have no faith in their hand. Keep in mind that it is better to take the loss now then after the bet has been raised a few more times. This will help protect your bankroll and help keep you in the game longer.
Not in the Mood to Play Poker, Then Do Not Play:
This poker tip should be an obvious one. If you are not in the mood for playing poker then you should get up and walk away from the poker table. Playing when you are in a bad mood, or just not able to keep your mind on the game then you should not be playing poker and chances are you are just throwing your money away.
Learn to Read People:
One of the most important poker tips I can give you is to learn to read people. We all tell other people all sorts of things about us everyday without even knowing it. The way we move the way we move our eyes, everything about you can tell something about you. Being able to hear what the other poker players at the table are telling you can help improve your game.
Watch the Cards:
Another poker tip is to watch what cards are being dealt to the other players. If someone has been dealt the card you need to make a winning hand you need to know this. It is not against the rules to pay attention or to try and peek at the other player's cards if you can. It is there problem if they are letting them show.
Do not Play Over Your Head:
You never want to play at a table with people who are much better then you. If the best you have ever done is beating some drunken friends when you were still in school, then you have no place sitting at a no limit table with the sharks. Stick to playing at a low limit and build your skills. This poker tip will save you lots of embarrassment and money.
Do not Play with Money You Can not Afford to Lose:
This poker tip will not help or hurt your poker playing skills, but it is very important. Poker is a game, and games are meant to be fun. If you are losing your rent money or food money you are not having a good time and should not be playing poker or gambling at all. If you are spending money you can not afford to lose on poker, then you should seek professional help.
Play Clear Headed:
Poker is a game that requires you to keep your wits about you. It is one thing to get drunk when playing with friends in your dorm room but in an online casino poker room the other players are trying to take your money, not to sit and socialize. Stay sober and play better poker, besides if you were drunk you would never remember all of these poker tips.
It is Just a Game:
No matter what happens remember, no one forced you to play and if that sometimes losing is part of playing the game.
I hope these poker tips help you start a long and successful poker career.
